December seemed like a really hard month with the loss of so many iconic celebrities. For me, the hardest was the death of Carrie Fisher. Some of you may know that I am a pretty big Star Wars nerd so it’s no surprise that January’s book club blog choice is one to honour her memory.
Book Club January 2017
True Story: Growing up I had two Siamese cats, one named “Skywalker” and one named “Vadar”. My love of Star Wars was passed down to me by my late mother and I am all too happy to continue that tradition with my kids. The release of the new movies “The Force Awakens” and “Rogue One” have a given birth to another new generation of young Star Wars fans. During the winter holiday break, we updated our 3 year-old son’s bedroom into a Star Wars themed room and I got the chance to take my 5 year-old to see Rogue One.
I mentioned in an Instagram photo this week that there is only one Disney Princess in our house and that’s Princess Leia. She carried a gun, lead a rebellion and didn’t need a man to save her. So when Carrie Fisher passed away last week, I took it to heart. I was desperate to grab the book that she had been promoting when she died: The Princess Diarist. The book literally flew off the shelves and sold out online within the first twelve hours. In my frantic state, I was thankfully able to track down one of the last copies in the city!
If you aren’t on the bandwagon, People Magazine also named this read the Best Book of Fall for 2016. Whether you are a Star Wars fan or not, I think this is a book that anyone could enjoy!
January’s CHOICE
Book: The Princess Diarist
Author: Carrie Fisher
Plot: Written based on the journals that Carrie Fisher kept while filming Star Wars in 1977. She was only 19 at the time and had no concept of the fame that this trilogy would instill on her life and secure her fate as Princess of the galaxy. Fisher always writes her novels with humour, honesty and whit. This book is a candid look into the life of a young inexperienced woman who fell into sudden fame, and the arms of Hans Solo. 😉 I can’t wait to start reading it!

I have to admit I’ve never been on the bandwagon but maybe it’s time to jump on!
This is getting added to the TBR pile immediately!
Oh my goodness. 1. You are absolutely adorable! 2. I can’t wait to read this!!
Adding this to my list of books to read.
I’ve heard about Carrie Fisher’s books but never picked them up. I do want to read this one thiught. It was sad to lose her and the Debbie Reynolds a day later!!
This sounds like a great book! I’m going to add it to my list of must reads for this year. 🙂
