Can’t crocheting be cool again?
I am an early 80s baby. So growing up knitting or crocheting conjured thoughts of uncool presents that my grandma knit and ugly Christmas sweaters that I was forced to wear. I took up knitting when I was a tween in order to gain a Girl Guide’s badge but once I sewed the badge on my sash I was done with the needles.
Until…. enter 2011 and I found out I was going to be a mom. I started scouring etsy for the cutest things I could dress up my sweet little boy in when I had an epiphany…. hey… I can make that! So I did. I found a couple cute patterns and set to work. It took FOREVER. I had to youtube everything. But I did it. And my little bear and santa hat photos are still my very favourite from my newborn photographs of Harper.
To my dismay, I was hooked. But I found knitting patterns were kinda still stuck in the 80s, so I decided I was going to teach myself to crochet. Back to youtube I went. I spent Harper’s napping hours sitting in front of the computer with my I Hook and yarn, constantly ripping out and starting over. But at last I had a football hat.
It has just grown from there. My name is Kristin. I have 2 sons named Harper and Cooper; they inspired me to keep creating cute things for them wear so I started my own business called Harper’s Hats. I love Canada, fashion, reading, music, online shopping, make-up, anything moustache and crocheting. I am striving to make crocheting cool again. Why can’t my boys grow beards at 1 and 3? I think we can all agree that it is not just for grandmas anymore.
