I started this blog about a year and a half ago because I wanted to inspire other stay-at-home moms to not give in to the “mom-rut”. As moms, we are unanimously tired. There’s barely enough time to drink a cup of coffee and scarf down a piece of toast in the mornings, let alone time to shower, get dressed, do your hair and put on make-up. Well, I’m here to tell you, MAKE TIME. And this is why….
I’ve always been an avid reader but I haven’t been able to find enough time this year to get swept away in a good book. If it isn’t a page turner, I barely pick it up anymore.
I love a great story, and nowadays that’s what keeps me interested. So picking up Kristin Hannah’s The Nightingale, I was apprehensive about reading another novel about WWII. There are just so many: All The Light We Cannot See, Sarah’s Key, Suite Francaise, the list could go on and on. I loved all those reads but haven’t I read this story a dozen times already?
My favourite, affordable place to buy bedding!
Does anyone else’s bed double as a living room and a kitchen? We’ve gotten into a bad habit in our house by allowing our kids to eat breakfast and watch TV in our master bedroom, also known as “The Big Bed.”
Our boys are pretty early risers and on some mornings it’s just fun to all snuggle together before the day officially begins. My husband and I kind of agree that during this stage in our lives, with young kids, it’s tough to justify spending a lot of money on furniture and decor for the fear of it being ruined by our boys. I see the gorgeous white, rouched bedspreads of some stylish women on Instagram and I cringe thinking about the coffee and syrup that would be spilled all over it within a couple days.
Since spring if now officially here, I’ve been wanting to add some fresh colour to our home to brighten things up a bit. Our whole bedroom needs a modern makeover but I’m trying to wait until the summer break so that I can properly tackle that redesign task. So upon heading to Ikea with the kids a few weeks ago, (by the way, did you know that Ikea has childcare while you shop!?!?!) I stumbled across this beautiful bedspread. The colours are pretty and bright and easy to match accessories with. And the best part? The price: $24!
It’s an easy and really affordable way to breathe some new life into your bedroom. Plus, the fabric is easy to wash and will hide stains. The new addition to our room inspired some more redecorating too. Stay tuned for DIY the gallery wall above our bed!

I stumbled upon this little shop while in San Diego last year. I experienced a little slice of heaven while browsing this store. This mug might just be my favourite in my entire collection. They have hundreds of adorable mugs (including the owl) but if you aren’t going to be in San Diego’s Seaport Village anytime soon, check them out online.
Of course, Starbucks has mugs. I have been collecting their City Mugs for a few years The best time to buy is always right before Christmas when they come out with tons of new designs. Take a browse next time you’re getting a latte or shop them online as well.
Every time I go into an Anthropologie, I drool over the gorgeous home decor. I want it all! These pretty monogrammed mugs are a great, personalized addition to your home! Find their drinkware collection here.
Although you can’t purchase mugs online, check out the mugs next time you are craft shopping at Michaels. They are really well priced, especially when you use one of their weekly coupons.

THE BEST BOLD LIPSTICK COLOURS
“Be bold, be bold, and everywhere be bold.” -Herbert Spencer
I used to be a little bit of a lipstick snob. I love bold colours but I would only buy the expensive department store brands because the colours were always so rich looking. But, I have to say that in the past year, “drug store” make-up lines like Maybelline, Revlon, Rimmel, Covergirl and L’Oreal have really stepped up and made some beautiful, affordable colours that look anything but cheap.
The number one question that I get asked on Instagram, is “What lip colour are you wearing?”. So I figured it was time to round up my favourites and share them with you.
First, some tips on wearing a bold lip colour:
1. You need lip liner to make that perfect, pouty lip. The great thing about lip liner is that you if you buy a couple different ones (one red, one pink, one berry) then you can match them to those colour spectrums. They don’t need to be exact!
2. Choose matte! If you want colour that pops and lasts, then choose one from a matte collection. It’s easy to layer on gloss overtop if you want that wet look.
3. Own it!!! So many people tell me that they purchased a lip colour that looked great in the store but then they got it home and thought it looked terrible on them. A little secret: it doesn’t!!! You have to have the confidence to wear it! Try this: Wear the new colour for ONE day. Choose a weekend when you are staying home or doing errands. If you aren’t used to wearing lipstick then it can be a big change. Get used to looking in the mirror with it on. By the end of the day, then decide whether it can stay or go.
To help you grab some great shades, I’ve made a handy list for you:
My new favourite!!! The ColorBlur allows you to add a lot or a little colour with the use of it’s blending tip. The colours are vibrant and bold. Shades to try: Partner in Crimson (red), Fast and Fuchsia (pink, worn in photo), Plum Please (berry, worn in photo above). Although they have so many fabulous colours, you can’t really go wrong here.
Revlon Color Burst
Love these matte colours from Revlon. They have a hint of vanilla/mint scent and they are so easy to apply. Shades to try: Elusive (pink), (poppy red, worn in photo), Fiery (new, plum).
Hard Candy All Matted Up
A new line from Hard Candy. This red and pink matte colour is beautiful! Unfortunately, this is the only good colour that they offer in the line but it’s a great price and worth buying.
There’s no better time of year than summer to try a new lip colour!
