Did you catch Barbie Fever after seeing the new motion picture this summer? Are you ready to live out your little girl dreams by dressing up in a Barbie movie costume this Halloween? Here is where you can find the iconic neon roller-blading costume for Ken and Barbie this year.
Barbie Movie Halloween Costume
I have to admit, I really didn’t know what all the Barbie hype was about until I actually saw the movie. Then I got it. This movie not only brought people back to their childhood with life-sized versions of the dolls and clothing styles that they used to adore but the movie packed in all the fist-pumping women empowerment messaging that all generations can appreciate.
Our neighbourhood hosts a bike crawl every summer and this year, we decided on an 80s theme. Three homes serve a signature cocktail and an appetizer and we all ride our bikes to and from each home. It’s one of my favourite nights of the year! I had just seen the Barbie movie and thought that Barbie and Ken’s neon roller-blading outfits would be perfect for this party! Thankfully I was able to convince my husband along with my bestie and HER husband to also dress up with me. We were the absolute hits of the party, to say the least!
Since it was mid-summer and there was lots of stock left, I checked around on my go-to Halloween costume websites. I was looking for Barbie and Ken costumes that were identical to those in the movie. There were a few imitations but Spirit Halloween was definitely the most authentic!
Barbie Roller Blading Costume
As you can see, we nailed it with these Barbie movie looks. I wasn’t letting them get away without a few snaps in front of my Barbie pink photography background. The Barbie costume comes with earrings, a fanny pack, a visor, elbow pads and knee pads. The bodysuit included is all one-piece, not two, as you might expect. For sizing reference, I am a small so I ordered a small. The top portion fit great although I did find that the shorts were too baggy and didn’t look right. I just don’t have the curves! I got out my sewing machine and took the seam in by two inches on each side of the shorts. Afterwards, the fit was SO much more flattering. Leotard is not supposed to be loose! My friend and I added knee-high striped socks to the outfit that we purchased from Party City.
So here’s the catch. These costumes have been uber popular already this year, and they are already sold out! However, if you have a Spirit of Halloween store in your town, they are likely in-store! I went to our nearest location this weekend and found both the Barbie and Ken styles in stock. I’ve included the link below so that you can keep checking the stock. Although the site is American-based and prices are in USD, they do ship to Canada quite quickly! Fingers crossed that it will return soon as I’ve had my eye on the Western Barbie outfit. There are other Barbie costume options and lots of cute accessories.
- One-piece romper
- Knee pads
- Elbow pads
- Fanny pack
- Material: Polyester, spandex, nylon
Ken Roller Bladimg Costume
This Ken costume was off the charts! I actually liked it even better than my Barbie costume. It was loose fitting and NOT Spandex material so our husbands were very comfortable wearing it. The costume includes a visor, zip-up vest, pink tank top, shirts, knee pads and wristbands. My husband got a medium and there was lots of room so it fits on the bigger size. Please note: the Ken costume does not include a fanny pack as shown in website stock photo.
- Knee pads
Material: Polyester, spandex
Barbie and Ken Halloween Costume Ideas
If you don’t have someone who’s willing to dress up with you, you can definitely make a costume statement alone. Since the Barbie movie plays up that pretty much everyone is named either Barbie or Ken (except Alan), you can get away with multiple people wearing the same look! Grab your bestie or your husband and grab the best Barbie movie Halloween costumes out there!
