I’ve been obsessed with brows for the past couple of years. Thick, perfectly arched eyebrows can completely transform your face. As a fair-haired maiden, my natural brows look thin and I spend so much time every day trying to create the illusion of fullness. I’ve been craving those big bushy brows so badly that I’ve been contemplating microblading; a semi-permanent tattoo. While doing some research, I stumbled upon an Instagram account from a local Brow Bar in Calgary called Laura Brows. I couldn’t believe that the before and after comparison photos were NOT from microblading! This place was creating thickness and shape through tinting and waxing. After calling my brow-obsessed bestie Chelsea, we couldn’t wait to get it there and try it for ourselves.

Before and After

For this post, I’m revealing the before and after for both Chelsea and myself. Our brows situations are very different so it’s a good comparison. As I mentioned, I have thin, light coloured brows and Chelsea has thick, dark brows. We walked in feeling curious and excited and walked out feeling so confident with our flawlessly shaped eyebrows! Laura, the owner of Laura Brows has trained all of her trusted technicians to create the perfect custom eyebrow for every client that walks into the studio.

Eyebrow tinting is meant to darken the shade of your eyebrows but also give colour to the fine, light coloured hairs. This will instantly make your brows looks fuller. The tint is mixed, applied and left on for only a few minutes. My eyebrow technician, Anastasiia, removed it and then we assessed how dark it was. Since the colour does fade slightly after a couple of days, I opted for a second application so that they would be even darker.

Shaping

One thing I loved about this process is that Anastasiia gave me a hand mirror to hold so that she could show me everything she was doing. Before waxing, she found the natural beginning, end, and arch to my brows. Then, using a stencil, she filled in my brows to help guide her through the waxing process.

Waxing

I highly recommend that you book a tint and wax together. I must confess that I now feel like a complete amateur when it comes to my brows. Wow, have I been doing it all wrong for the past 20 years! I typically use DIY wax strips at home once a month to just the tail of my brow. Sometimes I tweeze my arch and that’s about it. Well, now I’m happy to say that I found someone to educate me! Anastasiia tended to every single brow hair. She was meticulous at waxing not just below my brow, but above too! This was all new to me! But I couldn’t believe what a difference the removal of even a few hairs was!

Make-up

After my brows were perfectly shaped, Anastasiia used an eyebrow pencil to show me how to properly fill in some of the sparse places. My brows were so much more full now after the tint but this gave them the extra accentuation that they needed. She also showed told me to start combing my brows UP instead of to the side, a rookie mistake I’d been making. It gives them more of a feathered, fuller look. I ended up purchasing the ash toned brow pencil and also the brow gel in taupe to add a little extra colour and hold my brows in place. The brow gel is amazing! It’s been SO easy to recreate this in my morning makeup routine. The best part is that I barely spend any time on my brows in the morning! I also picked up a tube of EyEnvy, a lash and brow serum that helps stimulate growth and lengthens. I’ll keep you posted on that one!
