Instagram Mural Guide to Austin, Texas

Music isn’t the only scene in Austin, Texas that you’ll want to experience on your next trip to this capital city. Beautiful murals are everywhere and have become a tourist favourite for people of all ages! Instagram and TikTok creators, like myself, especially love to visit these places for great photos and video content. I wanted to create this FREE Austin mural guide with a handy Google map so that you can easily experience these walls by car or on foot. Although there are TONS of locations in the city, I just included all of murals that are conveniently located on South Congress Avenue. You’ll love this area of the city, with lots of great shops and places to eat.

Each little icon has an address and photo attached to it so that it is easy for you to locate. As a photographer, I always like to know the direction each mural is facing so I’ve added that for each location. Cloudy days are always the best for photos because you don’t have to deal with direct sunlight and weird shadows but Austin is a very sunny spot so sometimes you’ll just have to make the best of it, like I did!

I Love You So Much Mural

Photography Tips: North facing wall. Located on the side of the green building belonging to Jo’s Coffee. This is a very iconic mural that you regularly see when researching Austin murals.

Messy Love Heart Wall

Greetings from the Heart of Texas Sign

Photography Tips: Northwest facing sign. This is a sign located just out front of Guero’s Oak Garden. Not your typical mural but still a great place to snap a photo as it is right beside the side walk!

Willie For President

Address: 1720 S 1st St, Austin, TX 78704

Photography Tips: South facing wall. Located at Stag Provisions For Men clothing store, which is a very cool clothing store! Also, if you’re feeling hungry on your mural tour, check out the walk-up pizza window of Home Slice Pizza which is commented to the same building. It’s always a busy spot with delicious pizza slices!

Before I Die wall

Photography Tips: South facing wall. Definitely the most interesting and obscure wall that I visited. It’s located on the side of someone’s garage, a couple of blocks east of South Congress Ave. It’s painted with black chalkboard paint. There are large pieces of sidewalk chalk hanging in the tree where you are invited to add your own bucket list item to complete “Before I Die.”

Photography Tips: North facing wall. There is good shade by a large tree. Located on the side of the Kendra Scott Flagship store, a definite must-visit shopping spot!

Greetings From Austin Postcard

Photography Tips: South facing wall. This was the busiest wall that we visited but definitely the most well-known mural in Austin. It’s like a giant postcard! Be prepared to wait in a line at times, a tour bus literally pulled up as we were leaving.

Austin Locks

Photography Tips: South facing wall. To put your own sweetheart lock on this wall, head into the Prima Dora gift shop and purchase one! They even have sharpies so that you can add your name or initials.

Photography Tips: South facing wall. Second most busiest wall that I visited. Directly facing the previous wall, Austin Locks. You can do both of these at the same time!
