It’s my favourite time of year again, Halloween! I don’t know what it is about dressing up but it really gets my creative juices flowing again. This year, I have a few new looks to inspire you including this glamourous Marilyn Monroe Halloween costume.
Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring. – Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe Halloween Costume
I love costumes that can be easily put together with a wig and some makeup. If you don’t want to shell out for the iconic white dress, you might be able to pull something out of your closet that would work just as well. Marilyn Monroe had lots of different styles and a quick Google search will give you more inspiration. As long as you have the blonde wig and beauty mark, people will know immediately who you are! If you do want to copy this exact look, I found this Marilyn Monroe white dress costume. The wig and the dress combination will cost you a little over $50 and can obviously be reused or shared with a friend next year. I used this same wig in a 1920s flapper girl costume as well, watch for that coming up on the blog shortly!
Marilyn Monroe Hair and Makeup
Unless you have bleached blonde hair, a Marilyn Monroe wig is likely the best way to go. Like most synthetic wigs, they will likely need some styling after purchase. Never use hot tools on fake hair but you can reshape and curl with velcro or sponge rollers. I will be doing some restyling on this one in time for Halloween so that the curls aren’t so unruly! A wig cap also helps tremendously to keep your real hair in place underneath and is an inexpensive purchase. For do-it-yourself makeup, YouTube can be a great inspiration. I followed this easy makeup tutorial to create this Marilyn makeup look for the day. The perfect red lipstick is also a must and one that will last all day/night without smudging is a bonus. I wore this gorgeous warm red from Maybelline called Super Stay Matte Ink in the colour “Individualist”.
