Snap Foto Club
Snap Foto Club in Calgary was created by a husband and wife photographer team, Rebecca and Derek, who noticed that there was a lack of accessible photography studios in the area. There was been such a tremendous growth of capturing a cool photo and not a lot of indoor places to do it. As Calgary is pretty darn cold for 8 months of the year, it’s hard to get content outdoors without risking frostbite… trust me, I know from personal experience. Jessi from JGRAY PHOTOGRAPHY and I had to go and check this place out immediately after I heard about it.
At this self-service photography studio, you pay an admission fee and have access to over 30 different backdrops! These change seasonally and also embrace different occasions Easter, Mother’s Day, the Calgary Stampede, Halloween, and Christmas. There are lots of different props to use as well at each set-up, like these great umbrellas. The studio is well lit throughout the day and evening because of the numerous lights throughout the studio. You can also rent extra umbrella lighting if this isn’t enough for you, although Jessi and I made out just fine without it.
“Instagram Husband” Service
I’m sure you’ve heard of this term before, an “Instagram Husband” is a man who follows around a partner, taking her photo as she poses in various locations. If you do not have a partner to fulfill this job for you, Snap Photo offers this service to help you capture the perfect shot! It’s literally Rebecca’s husband Derek, who just happens to be an awesome photographer. Have Derek take your professional photos at the studio then choose whichever ones you like and pay only $5 per photo!
Photo Studio Prices
The studio space does have quite a few rules that guests are asked to adhere to. Each admission only offers an hour of time in the entire studio and you are limited to 5-minutes per backdrop and no major outfit changes. You aren’t allowed tripods either which isn’t great for someone like me who likes to shoot alone. It’s best to secure your timeslot online before you go.
Family (2 adults & 2 children) $100
Student $25
General Admission $35
Photoshoot Ideas
The great thing about visiting here is that you do not need to be a professional anything. It’s open to the public and accessible to everyone, whether you are bringing along your iPhone or a fancy DSLR camera. If you’re a family looking for some great keepsake photos, no need to hire a photographer to bring along with you, just use the “Instagram Husband” service to save yourself money without compromising quality. I love the idea of a date night here too combined with dinner out on Stephen Avenue before or after. Or think about some crazy fun Bachelorette photos before a big night out! They also serve snacks, coffee, beer and wine (genius!) so enjoy a couple of drinks to help you loosen up in front of the camera! Obviously the changing themed holiday photos will have you coming back a few times a year.
