Making the most of our last few days of summer with a road trip to Bowden, Alberta to visit a sunflower maze! Read all about this hidden gem and where to find this absolutely stunning peach peasant dress.
Road Trip
Last year, my bestie Chelsea showed me a photo on Instagram of a sunflower field in Bowden, Alberta and we vowed to take the kids there this August. Despite the really smoky skies that have been frequenting Alberta for the past few weeks, we decided it was a good day for a road trip! I still don’t know how we fit 5 carseats and kiddos into my SUV but we managed. Chelsea and I looked at each other several times and marveled at how people who actually have that many kids do it! Bowden is about an hour drive north of Calgary, almost all the way to Red Deer. The best part? We got to drink a warm cup of coffee and catch up on lots of Bachelor in Paradise gossip on the way.
SunMaze – Sunflower Fields in Alberta
Just when you think you’ve taken a wrong turn onto a gravel road in the middle of the Prairies, you’ll arrive at The Bowden SunMaze. The sunflower maze is created from over 100,000 beautiful sunflowers. Waiting until later in the season (end of August) will reward you with the field in full bloom. If you’re looking specifically for quality photographs, try waiting until sunset times to capture that magical lighting.
The kids were big fans of the u-pick field. The weekend rush had depleted most of their supply but they were still able to find some organic strawberries for their buckets. I find my kiddos aren’t the easiest to entertain these days. They have such low attention spans! We didn’t stay more than 2 hours here but it was still a great way to spend the day with my bestie and make some memories with our kids!
This Dress
This new dress from Chicwish deserved to be shown off! As soon as we decided on our little road trip, I knew this v-neck peach dress from Chicwish would be the perfect outfit to frolic in a field of sunflowers. Am I right? I like my clothes to fit pretty modestly so I ordered a size small and safety pinned the v-neck from behind a little higher up to make the neckline a little less plunging! It’s such a gorgeous piece and it also comes in a few different colours!
