Happy October witches! Since you’ve all been loving my previous beauty posts so much, I decided to allow my friend to draw my blood, gouge my face with needles, and then smear the plasma all over my face…. all for the purpose of educating you about the VAMPIRE FACIAL! My friend Andrea is actually an amazing nurse injector and the boss babe behind BeautyCall. This treatment combines microneedling with a PRP treatment, also known as The Vampire Facial. You may have heard of it before as Kim Kardashian gave it it’s claim to fame. I’m answering all of your questions about this facial treatment with unbelievable benefits and showing you my Vampire Facial before and after photos.
What is a Vampire Facial?
A vampire facial is a medical procedure that is performed by Nurse Andrea RN from BeautyCall. This treatment combines microneedling and your blood’s platelet-rich plasma (PRP). This can only be done by a nurse injector in a sterile environment. At your appointment, the nurse will take one vile of your blood and then spin it in a machine to separate your plasma from your blood.
This plasma will then be collected in small syringes to use for your vampire facial. Andrea calls them “liquid gold”. It is applied before and after the derma needles pass over your skin creating microscopic punctures.
What are the benefits?
- PRP helps boost your skin’s cell turnover and stimulate stem cells
- increased collagen and elastin production
- improves texture and tone
- reduction in fine lines, wrinkles, and crepey (thinning) skin
- reduction in sunspots, age spots, and improved hyperpigmentation
- reduction of acne scars or facial scars from injury
- tighter, firmer skin
Sounds pretty amazing right?
How long does the procedure take?
The procedure is booked as an hour-long appointment.
Does it hurt?
Numbing cream is definitely needed during microneedling. The needles can be adjusted for 0.5mm to 2.0mm in depth. Obviously, the deeper the needles are inserted into the skin has more benefit. It is a very painful procedure without numbing cream, so I would not recommend trying to be a hero here. If you have low pain tolerance, then the medical-grade, topical cream provided by BeautyCall can be applied twice before the microneedling to ensure your skin is totally numb.
What is the healing time?
Healing time is typically 48 hours. During this time it’s important to treat your face with care and not apply any makeup… as you will look pretty scary! I likened it to a little facial road rash. So try and book this appointment when you know that you will have a couple of days at home to recover. Warm water, gentle cleansers, and face creams can be applied.
How much does it cost?
You’re in luck! BeautyCall is offering a promotion right now for the spooky month of October! As long as you book your first Vampire facial before the end of the month, you will be honoured with 15-20% off regular treatment prices! If you opt for the three treatment package, these will be spaced out over the course of a few months but you will be honoured with the 20% off pricing!
1 treatment: $442 (total of 15% off the regular price of $520)
3 treatment package: $1,248 (total of 20% off the regular price of $1,560)
How many times are recommended?
Three vampire facials are the recommended number for the most optimal results. These can be completed with as little as 1 month in between treatments of stretched out over a period of time. You should see results with even one treatment.
Can the microneedling be done without the PRP treatment?
Yes, although for optimal results, the PRP is recommended.
What was my experience like?
I must say that it’s a different experience going in for a facial treatment and having your blood drawn! The things we do for beauty! Even with numbing cream, I did find the microneedling painful on my forehead and cheekbones where the skin is thinner and closer to my bones. I also experienced a lot of redness as blood flow increased to my skin and irritation occurred. It definitely felt hot and like a bad sunburn for the remainder of the day.
The next morning, I woke up with no pain or redness and I noticed that my skin had healed a lot overnight. I definitely was still not in any shape to see anyone though! My healing process felt totally complete after 72 hours, so a little longer than anticipated although this was my first ever treatment.
What I have noticed since is that my skin feels thicker and so much softer. I have also seen a noticeable reduction in my melasma (darkening of the upper lip due to estrogen), and my sun spots… which was ultimately what I was looking to achieve with the vampire facial. I barely have many fine lines thanks to BeautyCall and her amazing skills with botox so don’t forget to book her for that too!
So, would you get the Vampire Facial?
